Abdallah Sustainable Building Solutions (Affordable, Eco-Friendly Building Materials for Tyre, Lebanon)

Social Challenge Addressed

Lebanon faces a housing affordability crisis, worsened by economic instability and dis- placement after war and financial crisis since 2019, particularly in Tyre, where low-income families struggle to access quality housing. Cement production, a key industry, contributes approximately 8% to global CO2 emissions (IEA, 2023), exacerbating environmental challenges in a region with limited sustainable construction options.

Description of the Solution / Business Idea

Abdallah Sustainable Building Solutions will manufacture cement blocks using recycled aggregates (e.g. crushed concrete, fly ash) to lower costs and environmental impact. We plan to explore solar power to reduce reliance on the diesel generator, further enhancing sustainability. Partnerships with NGOs will ensure materials reach affordable housing projects. The construction industry accounts for approximately 38% of global CO2 emissions. By transforming our family business into a social enterprise focused on sustainability, we can demonstrate how traditional industries can reduce environmental impact while maintaining profitability and creating social value.
