ERUA Summit "Navigating the Edges"
Hosted by the University of the Aegean • November 4-7, 2025
Your guide to reaching and exploring the beautiful island of Lesvos
There are regular daily flights from Athens and Thessaloniki operated by Aegean Airlines and Sky Express. A taxi ride to the city centre takes approximately 11 minutes and costs around €15. Alternatively, a public bus connects the airport to downtown Mytilene for just €2.
Ferries run from Piraeus (Athens port) and Thessaloniki or Kavala (northern Greece) to Mytilene port. The journey from Piraeus typically takes 11-13 hours, often overnight (departing evening, arriving early morning), while Thessaloniki or Kavala takes between 9-11 hours depending on stops. Cabins are usually available on these longer routes, offering a more comfortable option for overnight travel. You can find all available options here. Please note that the ferry schedule for November is usually officially announced in late October.
Lesvos is a lush and historic island with olive groves, forested hills, coastal villages, and geological wonders. As the third-largest Greek island, it's known for being the birthplace of ancient poet Sappho, the ouzo tradition, and the Petrified Forest (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
Summit and Winter School schedules have been designed to allow flexibility for travel and exploration. Participants are encouraged to arrive early or stay through the weekends before and after the events to make the most of their visit to Lesvos, whether for cultural exploration, relaxation, or island adventures!
